Summer 2024 First-Year Students - Prepare for Class Registration

The pre-registration steps below are for first-year students starting classes in the 2024 summer semester.  If you will start classes in the 2024 fall semester, follow the steps listed on the fall 2024 first-year student webpage.

All incoming students must complete pre-registration steps by April 12.  Class registration for summer 2024 first-year students will take place during Orientation on April 19.

Step 1: Complete the You Belong Here Online Orientation
Step 2: Complete the Math Placement Survey
Step 3: Complete the English Placement Survey
Step 4: Make an Orientation Reservation (Orientation is required for first-year students)
Step 5: Send Documents

Step 1: Complete the You Belong Here Online Orientation

The You Belong Here online orientation provides foundational information that will answer many questions about the NDSU community, student life, finances, academics, and more.

  • Completion is estimated to take one hour, and you may stop and return as often as you wish
  • You must select the Student Login option and use your Bison Login
  • You must submit the Completion Survey at the end of You Belong Here
  • Your family and friends may also complete You Belong Here by using the guest login option. This will help them be well-informed and involved in supporting your success.
Step 2: Complete the Math Placement Survey

The NDSU math placement survey determines which math course best matches your previous academic experiences.  All students must complete the survey even if they have math transfer credit.

  • The estimated completion time is 2 minutes
  • Use your Bison Login to access the survey
  • The survey does not replace official transcripts.  You will still need to send your final high school transcript to NDSU along with any transcripts from colleges that awarded your college level credit (if applicable).
Step 3: Complete the English Placement Survey

The NDSU English placement survey determines which English course best matches your previous academic experiences.  All students must complete the survey even if they have English transfer credit.

  • The estimated completion time is 10 minutes
  • Use your Bison Login to access the survey
  • The survey does not replace official transcripts.  You will still need to send your final high school transcript to NDSU along with any transcripts from colleges that awarded your college-level credit (if applicable).
Step 4: Make an Orientation Reservation

First-year students are required to attend an on-campus Orientation.  If you will complete your degree completely online, you are invited but not required to attend on-campus Orientation.

  • Orientation on April 19 is a time to make connections, get questions answered, and register for classes.
  • Instructions for making a reservation will be sent to your email on February 1 or shortly after your NDSU admission.
  • If you live more than 300 miles from Fargo, you may request an exemption to the on-campus Orientation requirement.
  • Please contact ndsu.admission@aifengcai.com with questions.
Step 5: Send Documents
Send Official Transcripts
  • An official transcript from each college must be sent for all PSEO, dual credit, and CIS coursework. Your high school transcript will not be used for any college courses. You are encouraged to send official college transcripts by April 12 to assist with class registration during Orientation. If you choose to wait to send official transcripts until after you have completed all courses, you should be prepared to show your academic advisor an unofficial transcript or log into your student account during your advising session.
  • Upon graduation, have your high school send an official transcript showing all final grades and your graduation date
  • Learn how to send your official documents to NDSU.
Send ACT or SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) Scores
  • If you have ACT, SAT, or Advanced Placement (AP) scores, please request the scores are sent from College Board to the NDSU Office of Registration and Records.
  • Learn how to send your official documents to NDSU.
